Vivitar ViviCam 5355 Digital Camera - Silver (5.0MP, 3x Optical Zoom) 2.4" LCD Reviews
Great little camera
Cheap little camera that certainly did enough for me. I bought it about a month ago when Amazon were selling it at the same price and am very pleased with it. Lastly, contrary to what one previous reviewer said it does have a self timer. It's listed as a function in the manual but not explained for some reason. It does however work and can be set for either 2 seconds or 10.
Great cheap camera
This is my 2nd vivitar, with more bells & whistles than the basic, I've had it a month now, and I'm very pleased with it. Yes, you'll need to spend time getting to know its limitations and potential, (and your own) but I use my photos in a local magazine, and I find it does everything I need. No complaints, & you get more than you pay for. Leave it on 'fine' setting, get a 2GB card, and learn to use your own settings as well as the auto range of settings. Good colour on RGB- not as blue as on the earlier cheapo. The instruction book will also provide entertainment- who knew you should look where you're going?- but is relatively straightforward. Of course it's for amateurs, and of course it won't prevent you taking poor photos if they're what you take, but it's real value for money.
Very Disappointing
I thought these cameras would be quite standard in terms of quality / performance etc. I had a Nikon which was great, but got broken. I bought this and couldn't believe how bad it was. Poor pictures, very slow to save to memory, hopeless flash. I have thrown it out and bought a Sony, which is fantastic!
Budget Camera with Big Features
I have tested this camera for a couple of days in most conditions. It has some great features not found on much more expensive cameras - I had a slight chuckle about the settings that appear to distinguish between male and femail features but the rest of the settings seem to work OK.
I used the camera at 3 and 5 megapixels settings and actually found the 3 mp settings better as well as giving more photos on the memory card.
The zoom is good without being outstanding and like many small digital cameras suffers from camera shake the more you zoom - tripod needed!
The viewing screen is great but not tested in bright sunlight. I suspect it won't be too good.
Setting up was very easy and the software provided more than adequate.
Overall a very good camera for the price. Definately a good second camera but questionable as a main camera, hence only 4 stars.
Good for the price
I bought this for my daughter over 18 months ago and it's survived a 12 year olds treatment quite well so far! Picture quality is good for the price (approx fifty pounds at the time of writing) and the screen is large and bright. Night shots aren't too great, but I've yet to find a keen priced compact that is good at these. Build quality is pretty good, stying is pretty "boxy" but not ugly and (unusually) it comes with a lightweight pouch.
However, I must disagree with another reviewer as it eats batteries so it's worth using rechargeables (2 x AA). It's also worth noting it has no sound on video recordings.
For the price, this is not a bad bit of kit....you get what you pay for !
