Description
When the standard lightbulb was invented, naturally, we applauded. But science means progress - and the world is now looking for alternative ways to light up our homes. This is one of the best we've found. Inside the Sun Jar is a highly efficient solar cell, a rechargeable battery and three low energy LED lamps. When the jar is placed in direct sunlight, the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. When it gets dark or lights are turned off, this energy powers the three natural-coloured LED lamps inside the jar. The frosted glass of the jar then diffuses the light, giving the appearance of trapped sunlight.Reviews of Suck UK Sun Jar Solar Light, LED, Amber:
pleasant but low capacity battery
i brought a pair of lamps to take on holiday camping, so they stayed outside all day in full english sunshine. but the solar charger will not charge the battery so that the lamp stays lit all night. even charging the battery from the mains doesnt provide enough juice to keep the lamp lit all night.
however there is a switch on the inside so you can turn the lights off when no longer required and this saves the battery.
remembering to switch the lamp off means that the following evening the lamp is bright. as the battery starts to get low the light flickers and may give the impression of faulty wiring, buts its just a flat battery.
it is a delightfull lamp and provides a good fews hours of light. now i'm home from holiday the lamps provide a nice warm glow on the windowsill in the evenings.
a larger capacity battery would see this item get the full 5 stars.
Suck Sun Jars
Nice product - make excellent gifts to remind you of summer during the dark days of winter. Not bright enough to illuminate the room, but make a delightful and unusual ornament.
Kdodds
I received this as a gift in the spring and it's amazing! It's one weakness (and I think the reason it's got such mixed reviews here) is that it's only as good as the weather at the time.
If it's left in direct sunlight during long hot summer days it will glow for hours afterwards, but if it's exposed to a couple of overcast days it will barely flicker into life. I guess a miner relying on this light to see where he was sticking his pickaxe would be quite upset during the rainy weather, but I'm not one! so it's often a lovely surprise during summer evenings in the garden to see it spring into life out of the corner of my eye. A great talking point at BBQ's too. As is mining.
Perfect comforting glow
I've seen both the sun jar and moon jar. I like both and both are pretty but I prefer the sun jar. It's just a comforting glow for night time..a bit like a night light to take the edge off the darkness.
Supporting the original design
I was given a sunjar last summer by a friend and loved it, what a simple and effective idea.
I have even bought myself two more this year and bring them out onto the patio when we have friends over during these lovely summer evenings.
When I received the latest 2 one had charge already but the other was completely flat. I left them on the window sill in my kitchen for a few days while I was away for the weekend and came back to them beautifully lit up when I got home.
I think they look great. I have noticed a few replicas but the quality doesn't look as good, and I would always support the original designer by choice.
