Description

Movies based on computer games generally aren't well respected, but just because they aren't high art doesn't mean they can't be highly enjoyable. The only catch is that you need to be a fan of computer games to appreciate them. Resident Evil: Extinction is the third movie in the massively popular Resident Evil franchise, and it's probably the best one yet.

Between Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Extinction, the zombie-creating T-virus has spread far beyond the doomed Raccoon City; now the human race is almost extinct (hence the title). When a convoy of survivors meets up with the genetically-altered Alice, the shadowy Umbrella Corporation does everything in its power to take them down and reclaim her; but Alice isn't giving up without a fight...

Resident Evil: Extinction is part zombie movie, and part post-apocalyptic survival yarn. The big set pieces use CGI that doesn't look anything like reality, but does look very much like a computer game, which is possibly intentional--since this is a sequel to an adaptation, Resident Evil: Extinction does tend to assume a built-in audience which is already familiar with the various quirks of the franchise. If you're a fan of the games, you'll enjoy the various references to game characters and events; if not, you might feel a bit left out. It's not the best entry point to the franchise if you're a complete newcomer, but if you've seen the other films, it's a hell of a lot of fun. -- Sarah Dobbs

What???
After watching the first film and being mildly entertained, I didn't hold too much hope for the second so I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. A large variety of monsters, running street battles, well applied CGI and apart from some slightly wooden performances from the girl who played Valentine, and the father of the 9 year old girl, a reasonably good level of acting throughout. RE2 is a film I would watch again.

On that basis, I bought the third film. Oh dear.

It has to be the biggest load of self important drivel ever dropped on an audience expecting great things, after the first few minutes, absolutely nothing of note happens for the next 80 minutes. Trawling out the characters from the last film and predictably killing them off in unimaginative style does not make a good film, neither does the complete lack of story or purpose.

The monsters are virtually non existent, the zombies are purile and hark back to poor copies of Romeros creations, the plotline is extremely thin and the end lack anything to take away the sense of utter frustration at having seen the desecration of everything RE2 created.

There were a couple of high points in this film, the first was the opening credits and the excitement of what was expected to be a good filmResident Evil 3: Extinction [2007] [DVD]. The second was the end credits when I realised the whole sorry shambles was over.

stick to the games
many fans were maybe expecting more after the end of the second, but sadly almost the entire planet is zombies, very little answers with only relevence to the games being characters involved, but sadly without jill valentine. Better than the first, but not a film to rush out to watch, dull, boring & very little story line.

Reasonable.
As stated on the tin third outing for the futuristic zombies, fair entertainment in other words average.

Yet another excellent film in this series, watching it on bluray is like watching it again for the first time- cool! As usual great price and service.

Amazing movie, looks fab on Blu ray
I bought this as a tester movie for my new Blu ray player and have to say I was AMAZED! Saw this when it first came out in the cinemas and personally think it is a great blend of action, a fairly interesting storyline and a credit to the Resident Evil name despite some bad reviews. If you're a fan of this film, you will love how crisp it looks in full HD. And I got it for a fiver which is a bargain!
